Detail of activities / strategies used to engaged students:
- Monday:
- Opening: What does it meant to be American? Students will name things that are associated with being an American.
- Work Session -
- Instruction (I do): Review Embedded Assessment Review (Springboard pg. 60), Review Unit 1: The American Dream Review/Questions
- Guided Practice (We do): In pairs students will break down the embedded assessment; As a class, we will discuss the term, “The American Dream” Independent Practice (You do): Students will complete Frayer Model on “The American Dream”
- Closing: Partner Share
- Tuesday:
- Opening: Notebook Set-up
- Work Session -
- Instruction (I do): Teacher will explain the concept of Cornell Notes.
- Guided Practice (We do): Review Unit 1 Vocabulary; as a class we will read “I Hear America Singing” and “ I, Too, Sing America” in the Springboard books.
- Independent Practice (You do): Students will take notes on Unit 1 Vocabulary, students will complete comprehension questions on the previous poems.
- Closing: Review second read questions (comprehension)
- Wednesday:
- Opening: Vocabulary Review
- Work Session -
- Instruction (I do): Teacher introduces “Defining an American” (Springboard)
- Guided Practice (We do): As a whole class, we will discuss and read “Growing up Asian in America”; “Let America Be America Again”
- Independent Practice (You do): Second Read questions (pg. 40 & 44)
- Closing: Ticket Out the Door
- Thursday:
- Opening: Vocabulary Review
- Work Session -
- Instruction (I do): Teacher will introduce “What IS Freedom?”
- Guided Practice (We do): As a whole class we will discuss and read, “The Bills of Rights” and “What is Freedom?”
- Independent Practice (You do): Second Read questions (pg 54 & 57)
- Closing: Ticket Out the Door
- Friday:
- Opening: TPCAST - “Harlem” - Dream Deferred (Figurative Lang)
- Work Session -
- Instruction (I do): Teacher will introduce the American Dream TL
- Independent Practice (You do): Students will complete the American Dream TL, Students will take Mini #1 (CTLS)
- Closing: Discuss Mini #1 Results
