How will the students learn? 
Detail of activities / strategies used to engaged students: 
  • Monday: 
  • Opening: Ethos, Pathos, Logos Presentations (Cont’d from Friday) 
  • Work Session - 
  • Instruction (I do): Teacher will introduce Parallel Structure 
  • Guided Practice (We do): We watch a Brainpop video (Parallel Structure) & take 10 question quiz; Teacher will review the Embedded Assessment for Unit 2. 
  • Independent Practice (You do): Students will take notes on parallel structure. Student will pick a persuasive topic from a given list or students can choose their own topic. 
  • Closing:  Spidermap - What do I already know? (Persuasive Topic)  

  • Tuesday: 
  • Opening: Parallel Structure Review 
  • Work Session - 
  • Instruction (I do): Teacher will introduce the Claim, Counterclaim & Refutation to prepare for their Persuasive Essay 
  • Guided Practice (We do): We will break down (dissect) an essay to find the “claim, supporting point, counterclaims and refutations) 
  • Independent Practice (You do): Students will take notes on Claim, Counterclaim & Refutation. (Cornell Notes) 
  • Closing: Students will share their spidermap with the class and write down any feedback from their peers. 

  • Wednesday: 
  • Opening: Review Embedded Assessment (Essay Requirements) 
  • Work Session - 
  • Guided Practice (We do): We will discuss credible websites to use and how to find sources online.  
  • Independent Practice (You do): Students will begin and complete their research in class. Students will have the majority of the class to do so. 
  • Closing: 
  • Thursday:  
  • Opening: MLA Format/Citation 
  • Work Session - 
  • Independent Practice (You do): Students will complete their research and begin their rough drafts. 
Closing:  Students will review Peer Edit Form 

  • Friday:   
  • Opening: Students will complete the Peer Edit portion of their essay. 
  • Work Session - 
  • Independent Practice (You do): Students will complete their Final Drafts (This should be completed and emailed to me by Monday.) 
Closing:  Work Cited Review
