§ Instruction (I do): Teacher will review the Elements of a Plot (Powerpoint) and students will take notes using a diagram. Teacher will discuss and students will take notes on the three Types of Irony –Dramatic, Situational, Verbal (Honors)
§ Guided Practice (We do): Read the short story – Thank You Ma’am (Langston Hughes – bio video)
§ Independent Practice (You do): Identify the Elements of a Plot in the story & complete comprehension questions

o Opening: Open Discussion on Edgar Allen Poe

§ Instruction (I do): Teacher will show a video biography on Edgar Allen Poe
§ Guided Practice (We do): Discuss Catacombs (p. 127) Whole Class Reading: Cast of the Amontillado in the SpringBoard books (p. 131) Teacher will explain the importance of annotating while reading a text.
§ Independent Practice (You do): Silent Reading of Cast of Amontillado (Honors); Reading Comprehension Questions/Annotations.
o Closing: Open discussion of The Cast of the Amontillado
· Thursday:
o Warm Up: Independently, students will finish comprehension questions from The Cast of the Amontillado
o Opening: With an elbow partner, students will review comprehension questions.
o Work Session -
§ Instruction (I do): Teacher will review the importance of a Coat of Arms in The Cast of the Amontillado.
§ Guided Practice (We do): Teacher will show students various Coat of Arms in history as well as break down the Coat of Arms for Montressor’s family.
§ Independent Practice (You do): Students will create a Personal Coat of Arms
o Closing: Students will make a class list of the Do’s and Don’ts of Presenting

o Warm Up: Collect signed Syllabus sheets and Summer Reading Blogs
o Opening: Weekly Review: Elements of a Plot & Irony

§ Guided Practice (We do): Students will present their Coat of Arms to the class
§ Independent Practice (You do): Students will provide constructive feedback of presentation using rubric.
o Closing: Teacher will remind students about their skill review assessment next week.
