How will the students learn?

·       Monday:
o   Opening:  Parallel Structure/Syntax (What do you know?)
o   Work Session -
§  Instruction (I do):
1.       Teacher will review ACT III (students may or may not have finished reading on Friday.
2.       Teacher will have students take notes on Point of View
§  Independent Practice (You do): Students will continue reading “The Crucible” (in literature circles) ACT III. Students will begin reading ACT IV.
o   Closing:  Ticket Out the Door – Comprehension Questions (ACT III)

·       Tuesday:
o   Opening:  Brainpop (Parallel Structure)
o   Work Session -
§  Instruction (I do): Teacher will review Act IV; continue reading silently.
§  Guided Practice (We do): We will begin watching “The Crucible”
§  Independent Practice (You do): As the movie is playing, students should finish completing this character chart & comprehension questions.
o   Closing:  Unit 2 Minis (touchstones)

·       Wednesday:
o   Opening:  KWL Chart: Claim & Counterclaim
o   Work Session -
§  Instruction (I do):  Teacher will introduce the writing piece of Unit 2 to the students (Springboard)
§  Guided Practice (We do):
1.       As a class, we will finish watching “The Crucible”
2.       Class will complete the Unpacking the Embedded Assessment sheet
§  Independent Practice (You do): Students will begin their prewrite for their Argumentative Essay
o   Closing:  Ticket Out the Door -  What are the pros and cons of your issue (Students should being thinking about their Argumentative Essays)

·       Thursday:
o   Opening: Parallel Structure Review
o   Work Session -
§  Instruction (I do):  Teacher will talk to students about researching articles for their paper; teacher will also review textual evidence.
§  Guided Practice (We do):
§  Independent Practice (You do): Students will use the laptops to research articles for their topics.
o   Closing:  Ticket Out the Door – Students review their topic with a partner for more ideas
·       Friday:  (Absent)
§  Independent Practice (You do): Students will begin working on their Argumentative Essay Rough Draft.

§  Instruction (I do): Salem Witch Trials Review (Documentary from last week)
§  Guided Practice (We do): We will begin reading “The Crucible” (as a whole group)
§  Independent Practice (You do): Character Analysis for “The Crucible
o   Closing:  Ticket Out the Door – Teacher will explain literature circles; students will be using this strategy to read “The Crucible”

·       Tuesday: (Junior Meeting)
o   Opening:  Quotation Review
o   Work Session -
§  Instruction (I do): Review the beginning of Act I
§  Guided Practice (We do): We will continue reading “The Crucible” Act I (as a whole group)
o   Closing:  Ticket Out the Door -  Character Analysis

·       Wednesday:
o   Opening:  Textual Evidence (Quotation Review)
o   Work Session -
§  Guided Practice (We do): Discuss the importance of Common Assessments
§  Independent Practice (You do): Students take Unit 2 Pre-Test & continue reading Act I
o   Closing:  Ticket Out the Door

·       Thursday: (HALF DAY)
§  Guided Practice (We do): We finish reading Act I “The Crucible” (as a whole group)
o   Closing:  Ticket Out the Door – Teacher will explain literature circles; students will be using this strategy to read “The Crucible”
