Week of February 11th

How will the students learn? 
Detail of activities / strategies used to engaged students: 
  • Monday: 
  • Opening:  Power of Persuasion (What does it mean to “persuade” someone?) 
  • Work Session - 
  • Instruction (I do):  Teacher will introduce Unit 2 to the students (Springboard) 
  • Guided Practice (We do): Vocabulary Chart (QHT -UNIT 2); As a class, we will read “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” & “The Trial of Martha Carrier” – (Springboard - 110-113) We will also discuss Puritans & their beliefs 
  • Independent Practice (You do): Students will complete the Second Read questions 
  • Closing:  Ticket Out the Door – Students will create Frayer Models for the word: Persuasion to go on our class Word Wall;  

  • Tuesday: 
  • Opening:  Q1, MINI #1 
  • Work Session - 
  • Instruction (I do):  Teacher will discuss the importance of knowing the historical context of a play, before reading it by reviewing Second Read Questions from yesterday. 
  • Guided Practice (We do): As a class, we will read “How to Spot a Witch” 
  • Independent Practice (You do): Students will complete the Second Read Questions (pg. 111 & 114) 
  • Closing:  Students will complete their Frayer Models from yesterday 

  • Wednesday: 
  • Opening:  Review Second Read Questions from yesterday 
  • Work Session - 
  • Instruction (I do):  Introduction to “The Crucible” 
  • Guided Practice (We do): Anticipation Guide: “The Crucible” 
  • Independent Practice (You do):  Student will watch “Salem Witch Trials” Documentary and complete the Film Analysis questions 
  • Closing:  Ticket Out the Door- Open Discussion about the Salem Witch Trials 

  • Thursday:  
  • Opening:  Review Drama Elements that tie into “The Crucible” 
  • Work Session - 
  • Instruction (I do): Teacher will explain the Character Analysis Chart for “The Crucible 
  • Guided Practice (We do): We will begin reading “The Crucible” as a whole group 
  • Closing:  Ticket Out the Door 

  • Friday:   
  • Opening: Review the readings from yesterday. (The Crucible) 
  • Work Session - 
  • Guided Practice (We do): We will continue reading “The Crucible” as a whole group 
  • Independent Practice (You do): Students will complete the character analysis chart while and after reading. 
  • Closing:  Ticket Out the Door
