Monday:
o   Warm Up: EOC Prep: Characterization
o   Opening:  Review Coat of Arms Projects Requirements
o   Work Session -
§  Instruction (I do): Coat of Arms Projects
On-Level: Students should finish designing their Coat of Arms in Class.
Honors:  Students should have completed their Coat of Arms over the weekend. Teacher will review presentation requirements.
§  Guided Practice (We do): Teacher and students will discuss essay requirements that goes with their Coat of Arms. Students should write an essay that explains the symbols and motto used for their Coat of Arms. Essay should be at least 3 paragraphs.
§  Independent Practice (You do): Students will write their essays using rubric.
o   Closing: Table of Contents Set-up (Interactive Notebooks)

·       Tuesday:
o   Warm Up: Coat of Arms Selected Presentations
o   Opening:  Sustain Silent Reading Introduction/Importance
o   Work Session -
§  Instruction (I do): Students will discuss the UNIT 1 Vocabulary Words -SpringBoard p.2; Teacher will discuss how as a class, we will creatively build our classroom word wall week by week.
§  Guided Practice (We do): Students will discuss/teach the words for this week: Voice, Tone, Diction, Narrative & Narrator. Students will take Cornell Notes on the words of the week. Teacher will introduce the Frayer Model.
§  Independent Practice (You do): Students will pick 3 words from this week to create Frayer Model charts. Frayer Model should be creative! These will be on display in the classroom.
o   Closing: Students will partner share their Frayer Model.

·       Wednesday:
o   Warm Up: EOC Prep: Point of View
o   Opening:  Sustain Silent Reading
o   Work Session -  
§  Instruction (I do): Coming of Age Intro (SpringBoard p. 1)
A. Teacher will teach Point of View (Powerpoint/Cornell Notes)
B. SpringBoard: Talking About Voice Intro
§  Guided Practice (We do): As a class, we will discuss the differences between Diction, Syntax and Imagery. We will then do Activity 1.2 together.
§  Independent Practice (You do): Activity 1.3 – Narrative Voices: From Speak
Students will complete the chart on page 12.
o   Closing: Partner Review/Share Page 12 (SpringBoard)


·       Thursday:
o   Warm Up: EOC Prep: Point of View  
o   Opening:  Sustained Silent Reading
o   Work Session -
§  Instruction (I do): Teacher will review Irony & Characterization from previous weeks. (Verbal, Situational & Dramatic Irony as well as Indirect/Direct Characterization will be seen in the next short story that we read)
§  Guided Practice (We do): Students will watch a short bio on Roald Dahl. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLtEzpFoBJQ Students should write down 5 facts about the author in their notebooks;
On-Level: As a whole class, we will read “Lamb to the Slaughter” by Roald Dahl
§  Independent Practice (You do): Honors:  Students will silently read “Lamb to the Slaughter” by Roald Dahl; Students will answer comprehension questions and complete character chart for the main characters in the short story.
o   Closing: Open Discussion about the Point of the View Dahl decided to use and the effect it had on the story.

·       Friday:
o   Warm Up: EOC Prep Point of View
o   Opening:  Sustained Silent Reading
o   Work Session -
§  Instruction (I do): Review Comprehension Questions – “Lamb to the Slaughter”
§  Guided Practice (We do): Students will watch Alfred Hitchcock’s version of Lamb to the Slaughter while comparing & contrasting the movie version to the text. (chart) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1sBQZfDh0
§  Independent Practice (You do): Quiz – Plot Elements, Irony, Characterization, Point of View
o   Closing: Review Quiz together as a class.
