How will the students learn?

Detail of activities / strategies used to engaged students:

·         Monday:

o   Opening: Week 1 Vocabulary Words Review

o   Work Session -

§  Instruction (I do): Mini-Lesson on the 3 Types of Irony (Verbal, Situational, Dramatic)

§  Guided Practice (We do): Students will take notes on Irony and create a word chart.

§  Independent Practice (You do): Students will do independently read passages and determine which type of Irony is being displayed.

o   Closing: Ticket out the Door



·         Tuesday:

o   Opening: Irony Review

o   Work Session -

§  Instruction (I do): Teacher will introduce Edgar Allen Poe.

§  Guided Practice (We do):

Students will watch a short bio on Edgar Allen Poe (5 Facts)

Whole class reading of ‘Cast of the Amontillado” (Springboard)

§  Independent Practice (You do):  Students will answer the comprehension questions in their Springboard workbooks

o   Closing: Ticket out the Door



·         Wednesday:

o   Opening: Independent Reading

o   Work Session -

§  Instruction (I do): Mini Grammar Lessons (Parallel Structure/Pronoun Antecedent Review

§  Independent Practice (You do): Students will complete independent work on the previous grammar lessons.

o   Closing: Ticket out the Door



·         Thursday:

o   Opening: Independent Reading

o   Work Session -

§  Instruction (I do): Teacher will review Irony with students. Teacher will introduce Roald Dahl

§  Guided Practice (We do):

Students will watch short bio on Roald Dahl

Teacher and students will read “Lamb to Slaughter” (Whole Class)

§  Independent Practice (You do): Students complete comprehension/characterization questions for Lamb to the Slaughter”

o   Closing: Ticket out the Door – Poem Draft due



·         Friday:

o   Opening: Pre-Test Unit 2

o    Work Session -

§  Instruction (I do): Mini Lesson on Point of View

§  Independent Practice (You do): Students will complete comprehension activity for “Lamb to the Slaughter” from yesterday.
Closing: Silent Reading (Independent Reading)
