October 2 - 6, 2017


·       Monday:
o   Warm Up: Finish Common Assessment #4
o   Opening:  Sustained Silent Reading
o   Work Session -
§  Instruction (I do): Discuss their Argumentative Essay topics picked on Friday. Allow students to change their topics, if need be. Students have until the end of the day to send me new topics.
§  Guided Practice (We do): Unpack Embedded Assessment: Writing an Argumentative Essay. Students will complete their own unpacking the embedded assessment form and place this inside their notebooks.
§  Independent Practice (You do): Students will read the short article, “Education Still Pays” (Activity 1.14) on page 66 and complete questions 1-4 on page 67.
§   
o   Closing:  Review Ethos, Pathos, Logos, Claim, Counterclaim & Refutation
·       Tuesday:
o   Warm Up: Sustained Silent Reading
o   Opening:  EOC Prep (USA Test Prep)
o   Work Session -
§  Instruction (I do): Teacher will review MLA Format. Teacher will also review commas, semicolons.
§  Guided Practice (We do): We will reading both “Why College Isn’t for Everyone” and “Actually, College is Very Much Worth It” in the Springboard book.
§  Independent Practice (You do): Students will complete #1-7 on page 88 & 89 in the Springboard books.
o   Closing: Review Second Read questions as a whole class.
·       Wednesday:
o   Warm Up: Sustained Silent Reading
o   Opening:  EOC Prep
o   Work Session -
§  Instruction (I do): Teacher will show students how to navigate through MacInVIA
§  Guided Practice (We do): Teacher will walk students through the argumentative template created for their argumentative essay. Students should complete this between today and Thursday.
§  Independent Practice (You do): Students will have the opportunity to research supporting evidence for their argumentative essay. (Laptop Carts)
o   Closing:  Ticket out the door - Students will write down 3 points that they will make in their argumentative essay along with the works cited. Students will write this on their template.
·       Thursday:
o   Warm Up: Sustained Silent Reading
o   Opening:  EOC Prep
o   Work Session -
§  Instruction (I do): Teacher will review their argumentative essay template given on yesterday to make sure everyone understand.
§  Guided Practice (We do):  Allow students to continue researching articles that support their claim for their argumentative essay. Students may use their cellphones or laptops.
§  Independent Practice (You do): Students will complete their rough drafts in class. Students must be completed with this before leaving.
o   Closing:  Teacher will collect rough drafts for a grade.
·       Friday:
o   Warm Up: Sustained Silent Reading
o   Opening:  EOC Prep
o   Work Session -
§  Instruction (I do): Teacher will review how to properly peer edit an argumentative essay.
§  Guided Practice (We do):  Teacher & students will review the peer edit form.
§  Independent Practice (You do): Students will peer edit one peer’s argumentative essay rough draft and provide constructive feedback. Students may begin their finals.
o   Closing:  Teacher will have a few students share the feedback that was given by their peer with the class. Friday drafts will be due on Monday.
